Side Hustles Demystified

Many of us struggle with making ends meet and are looking to bring in any type of supplemental income.  Some would just like to financially contribute to the household in any way possible.  Wherever you fall in that spectrum, I wanted to highlight a few options that might be able to assist you in your side hustle endeavor.

I’ll start with the one that you may have heard of called VIPKID.  Those who haven’t let me explain.  It is a service that helps international students learn different languages.  I actually know somebody who is a teacher on this platform and makes a nice supplemental income.  This type of job is great for those of you who have a quiet space in your home and are night owls.  The hours often start late at night into the wee hours of the morning.

If you enjoy working with kids, then this is your jam.  If you like the satisfaction of seeing people’s faces light up when they are learning a new word, again, this is the place for you.  Just know that it will require some long nights/early mornings but the payoff could be significant, and not just in dollar signs.

If those hours don’t seem very enticing, try Wyzant.com.  This is a service that finds tutors either online or in and around your city.  A few years back I actually tried looking for a tutor for my stepdaughter and unfortunately, at the time, there was nobody available in my city.  But now things have changed.  With face time, you can hire a tutor in New York as long as they meet your requirements.  But wait, there’s more!  Why doesn’t a New York parent hire you to tutor their kid from the comfort of your home?!  Now, we’re talking!

Do you like to drive and help others?  Then what about being an Instacart driver?  No passengers to deal with here.  Just groceries.  With more and more people taking advantage of online shopping right now, the demand is only likely to grow.  Read more about Instacart and how to save with online shopping at this post.  Other services like GrubHub can be your ticket to ride to your next side hustle.

How about walking dogs?  I actually checked this out myself.  I got hired on as a Wag walker.  I submitted an application and took a test online.   Voila!  You can now hire me as your friendly dog walker.  Alas, I never took on a client because I got sidetracked with other life events.  But, this could be something that not only satisfies your wallet but gets those endorphins released and puts a smile on your face.

If your eye has always been design-oriented then boy do I have a job for you.  A site called Modsy.com  always seems to be looking for remote interior designers.  Now I know you probably think you’re not good enough.  But take a look around your house!  You probably have Wayfair, Hobby Lobby, and Overstock.com items prettying it up right now.  Your closest friends come to you for design advice.  Or did you take some CAD classes in school?   Then you’d probably do pretty well with this side gig.  To view their current opportunities head to the Careers section all the way at the bottom of their website.  You’ll then see a list of Remote Part-Time Stylist positions.  It’s a work from home position so don’t shy away because you don’t see your local city.  Just apply to the one closest to you.   Or if no positions are currently listed, contact them directly and see what happens!  You never know until you ask.

There are a ton of other options out there.  I will write more about them in coming posts so signup for my newsletter below so you don’t miss them.  Good luck, entrepreneurs!
